Does anyone have any tips for managing the pain in the bones after having the injection for white blood cells after Chemo? My 19yo daughter suffers for at least 7 days constantly and pain killers are not effective enough.
Are you talking about the Neulesta shot? My husband had to have that once during his treatment and someone told him to try taking Claritin. I don't know why it worked, but it did! It may be worth a shot!
I had the shots, but if I did have the pain, it got lost in the arthritis which I also suffer. Claritin has been mentioned by a lot of people, as well as Greg above. No-one can explain it, but it works, they say.
Greg's wife and Tony, thanks heaps for your advice I will ask our doctor about my daughter using Claritin today.

My daughter is having this same issue with Neulasta. She has taken Claritin and it did help, just not enough. She has had 3 injections so far and yesterday she said she is not going to take them anymore. She did discuss this with her doctor last week and he said she has to take them to rebuild her white cells but she is now refusing to take them. She said she will eat high protein, or anything else she can that will bring her levels back up after chemo but that she will not take the shot again.
Cindy I wonder what age your daughter is? I hope that despite the level of pain she accepts the injection because it could be very dangerous for without it I expect. I am looking into getting an alternating overlay for my daughter's bed to assist with blood flow and hopefully reduce pain and help her sleep. The doctor is currently looking at changing her pain relief so it is at a manageable stage and we don't end up back in hospital. All the best to you both.
