I am going through a depressive period in my life and am seeing the doc tomorrow to ask for an antidepressant. I have taken .5 mg xanax at bedtime for years and years, as I am wired with anxiety and it's always been that way. I will not be stopping the xanax, so whatever I get needs to go with it. I am looking for something that won't make me sleepy, fat, unable to have an orgasm, and generic would be great. I did take effexor for 5 years and it did all of the above to me, plus was a nightmare to get off of. I am thinking of generic wellbutrin. I'm not going to tell my doc how to do her job, but I do want to go to the appointment armed with info from real people who have really taken the meds. I feel my brain is stalled and I need to jumpstart it. Thanks for any recommendations.
I am on Cymbalta and take Ativan when needed. It has been the best think for me.
Before that I was on Zoloft, it didn't help at all. I felt horrible and numb. No feelings.
I understand that eveyone is different, you may have to try a few before you find one that works for you.
Thanks for the recommendation. I do not believe I will need this for a lifetime. It is more like situational depression, but I am in a situation that is going to remain for a while (going through a painful divorce) and I feel stalled in my brain by more than just the normal sad feelings one would normally get from a significant loss. I feel that my depression over this, coupled with the anxiety that I've carried with me all my life, is enabling me to make poor decisions that are not helping me recover. I want something to jumpstart my brain but not have crippling side effects, because if that was the case, I'd rather just live with feeling depressed. Thanks.
Soft,
I have not had any side effects from the Cymbalta. I know someone that is taking lexapro and it works well also.

Thanks for the recommendations. I am going to try to stay away from anything currently advertised on TV because my health insurance charges soooo much for the higher tier drugs. I know if I have to worry about my copay being out of control, my depression and anxiety will worsen. Thanks for the input.
hey i read this post... and i recommend wellbutrin... its a really good depression pill, i took it in the past and it worked wonders. im on it again, DR. OZ calls it the happy skinny horny pill. because gets u over depression, makes u loose weight, and does not have sexual side affects like the rest.
