Sad

Heard about SAD . it winter here. How to handle it without the special lights.? How to know the difference between that and depression.

I don’t think there really is a difference: SAD is a seasonal kind of depression, or depression made worse by having less daylight, longer nights, and colder weather. It does seem like getting out in the sun when you can and being in well-lit environments can help. The “special lights” just try to give you more of a feeling of sunlight, and maybe help boost some vitamin levels. If there are any well-lit indoor parks (some office buildings and shopping centres have an “atrium”) near you, see if you can spend some time there.

I suffer with SAD in winter months too, so Ive taken your advIce and got the SAD lamp. I get so down sometimes, I cant get out of bed, feel ashamed havent got anything done on those days, and find it hard to do even small tasks, like my cleaning flat or wash myself. Ive lost most of my friends and find myself alone wkdays and on the weekend. I had an ex, sort of boyfriend, who was still my friend, and also has depression. He abandoned me because I asked him to pick up some things he had dropped on the floor, after I had taken time and effort to clean the flat. He knew Id recently lost my mum aswell and was unsupportive even though I was there for him was so unappreciative of me. I feel really badly down, but I guess the up side is, Im well shot of someone that arrogant, cruel and callous, who only really thought of himself and nobody else anyway. I will let you know how the lamp works out.

It won’t be long until christmas lights go up . Maybe seen them will help. Got some sun today .

Ive been seeing this a lot now that the north hemisphere is getting into winter. Question is: were you feeling depressed in the summer, autumn? If no, then its likely seasonal depression, get exposed to sunlight as much as you can, there’s lights to simulate sun, you can just change white lights to yellow ones. Best of luck, enjoy the winter
