Scared, I am scheduled to have surgery on August 7th to fuse the vertebrae , I wanted to hear from others who have already done the surgery and hear their experiences
Hi, I am recovering from a neck fusion. The MD put in a rod and bolts and fused 4 vertebrae together in my neck. I am not going to lie, it is hard. The surgery and first few weeks were hard. It has been a long recovery. I have not totally healed yet. I am using a bone stimulator around my neck 4 hours a day and I am in physical therapy. I still have pain, but I would do it all again. I was in bad shape prior to surgery....so. I am glad I did it. Although it is t easy. Wish I could tell you otherwise. Best wishes! Melissa
Thank you for the comments, they want to fuse the vertebrae from the base of the spine to the midway using bone taken off my hips. At age 57, I cannot stand for more than a few minutes and walk hunched over. I expect a lot of pain from the surgery, with it being back surgery and grafts off my hips, how am I supposed to lay to sleep ? I am not looking forward to the PT sessions and the numerous followup visits. Fortunately I have a sit down job so as soon as I can sit for 8 hours a day I plan to go back to work. They tell me it will be a 5 day hospital stay, a transfer to a rehab facility, then after 12 weeks , I can only work part time until I feel I can go back full time. I don't think I can stay home and not go crazy for that long.
