Single Mothers who are wronged by the Justice System

I have recently have a judge order 50/50 custody in the state of New Jersey. My lawyer quit right after mediation because he knew he was not prepared and was reviewing material I had been faxing and emailing to him for months for the FIRST time that morning at the courthouse. I was horrified! When we went into the courtroom after lunch (alone just us and our attorneys, which I thought was very strange) and after 35 minutes of my now ex-attorney and the other attorney talking privately with judge in chambers I requested my adjournment.
The judge denied my adjournment and forced me to sign a consent order that I did not agree too. My ex was awarded 50/50 after abandoning my daughter after she was two weeks old.
I am social worker who works for child protective services in New Jersey, I have a beautiful apartment for my little girl and I. Her father works one day a week and lives with another woman already who has a small child of her own. The judge felt that he was a more appropriate parent because he is home more during the work week and that my job takes me away from my child. I was forced to resign because I never see my baby anymore.
Is anyone else going through this? Any advice? This judge abused the law and got away with it.

Hi there,

I'm really sorry to hear about what you are going through. Sometimes the system is just not fair, it's broken as they say. I would suggest perhaps looking for legal council once again maybe? Is that a possibility? I'm really sorry about this again, my heart goes out to you. If you need someone to talk to I'm here for you.

Hugs,
K.G.
