So I haven't ever taken any illicit drugs, I was prescribed percocet before after I got out of the hospital, and because of my condition I am seeking pain management because the pain drastically interferes with my day-to-day life. However, this is not easy because of the whole "opioid epidemic" surrounding this area where I live, stigmatizing true pain patients along with the drug abusers. not only this, but I am in my mid-twenties, and though my mom is currently prescribed pain management medicine for the same condition, she receives it and I don't because I am young and she is a lot older (in her 60's). But i have been suffering for so long, and when I am taking that medicine, I always use it responsibly and only take like half for instance if I am at work and the pain is bad-so that I don't have to leave work or go to the hospital feeling like I am dying in pain. This is a daily thing for me, and one I have dealt with for many years. The pain is excruciating, and yes, I have tried MANY natural alternatives. I am NOT looking for any alternatives, just looking for maybe some advice on how to speak to the doctors, or what else I can maybe do to support my credibility and responsibility I would hold while on this medication (if the doctors will finally once again prescribe it to me so I can function).
While I can understand the desire to stick to something you know works for you, your determination to get only percocet suggests addiction. I'm NOT saying you are, I'm just saying that's what a doctor might hear. Have you told your doctor you only take half when you are working? If so, that's not taking it as prescribed. If half does the trick, then you don't need full dose. Or if full dose makes you unable to work, then it's too strong as you are getting high from it. You state very clearly you are NOT looking for alternatives further suggests addiction. This is what your doctor hears. That plus the scrutiny all doctors are faced now because of the rise in prescription addiction and overdose, makes it hard for anyone to get opiotes.
I am not saying I only need percocet, what I am saying is I have tried everything else but that and hydrocodone have been the only things that have worked. And I have, I have taken one half here and there to manage my pain at work, and also when i go to the doctors I don't EVER ask them outright for ANY particular medicine, just to make sure that I make sense.
And also, I get what you're saying about what they might hear versus the intent. That is what also makes it tricky, because I never do ask the doctors for particular medicine, but if those types of medications are the only ones that work for me, then it just becomes very frustrating and I have no idea how to approach them.
