Supplements

Can anyone give me some advice about Supplements. I need energy. My energy is zapped the first 4-5 days after Chemo. Help!

Mrmark, have you asked your doctor or a medical professional regarding helpful supplements? I think that would be the best route for you to take at this time, as your doctor knows your condition the best and can give you proper guidance.

Drink TONS of water and eat more protein. That helped my hubby through his six months of chemo.

Gregswife, thank you so much for your helpful insight. This is so good to know, most especially since you have direct experience with this.

By the way, I love your profile picture; what a beautiful family :-)

Mark-
You just need to be cautious about whatever supplement you decide to take. Puppydoglvr's point about discussing this with your doc is a good one, since there are certain supplements that can block or interfere with the action of the chemotherapy drugs- and that's the last thing you want. Just make sure they know what you're about to take so they can determine whether there's going to be a problem or not.

Mark, if you're tired, sleep. You can ignore the normal rules for a while. Try to eat well. Easier said than done, I know, with the tricks the chemo can play with your taste buds, but a well-balanced diet will do more for you than supplements.

I found that REST, PROTEIN and WATER are my best friends during the 4-5 day chemo lag. I get treatments every other Thursday and Sat. & Sunday are my worst days. Chicken, hard-boiled eggs, potatoes, greek yogurt and ice cream are some of the things I eat during that time. My dr. told me not to take supplements but try to get through food. My tastebuds and appeite are off during chemo week so for me it's tough -- but I try to be cautious.

Is beer a supplement?
