“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and you

“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”
― C.S. Lewis

Vulnerability is such a difficult thing- I struggle with it a lot in relationships. It's hard to just put yourself up there, to allow yourself to feel your emotions. People talk about vulnerability as a sign of weakness, but it really takes so much strength and courage. It's easier to just keep your heart to yourself, just a build a life full of things and hobbies and activities, and not allow yourself to truly feel and be open to another person. But you also lose out on so much. I hope everyone out there someday can be brave, and be vulnerable. I'm still learning how, but every step I take toward that is rewarding.
