Took Myself on a Date ♥

So... I've been super stressed and tending to overdo things lately... The holidays are approaching, and I'm overtaxing my already packed schedule... Sound familiar? ;0)

I had group therapy on Tuesday, and received a very interesting homework assignment... I was asked what I WANTED to do... For FUN... ♥ Hmmmm... I replied that I've been wanting to go to see the new Harry Potter movie, and I've been pushing it back "another week" since it was released... I had plans to go to my Step class yesterday, and knew I didn't have time to squeeze in a movie. Perhaps this coming weekend?? :0/ So... Homework assginment... (sigh...) Wednesday, I was told, would be ME time... ??? I was to work as usual, leave quickly and go for a walk, then see my movie... I can't believe I was so freaked about this idea!! LOL! I merely agreed to think about it. ;0)

So... After receiving many FB notes from my support group, and confiding in a few coworkers, I was fairly shoved out the door at 4:00 yesterday... Sighing, and thinking about all the work I needed to do, I headed for the mall and bought a ticket for the 5:00 show. I decided I could squeeze in a little Christmas shopping while I walked ;0), and even treated myself to a small bag of movie theater popcorn. (That one will NEVER grow old! ♥) I tensed in the theater at the suspenseful moments. Cried at the sad moments. Smiled at the tender moments. And came away feeling... Refreshed. :) LESS tension!! As much as I HATE to admit it, that was JUST what I needed!! ♥

I drove home feeling GREAT, and decided to snack on some goodies and turn in early. WOW! I even woke up ON MY OWN this morning, without the help of my screeching alarm clock, and have had a little extra time to write this morning! Hmmm... I missed Step... Okay... But I feel so much better after my "date night", and I'm already more productive. Ha! :)

I hope you can all find a way to take yourself on a date or two this holiday season, too. ♥

Love,

Jen

Jen,
You continue to inspire and offer very personal and true examples of how rewarding recovery can be, despite the challenges involved!
Thank you for being my friend, and for being such a light to everyone here and also those in your life (Yes, I'm certain that you are!).
Wishing you a great day!!
HUGS...Jan ♥

Jan,

Thank YOU for being MY friend!

Love you!!

Jen

YEAH Jen! I love the idea of taking yourself out on a date. It sounds wonderful. I am glad that instead of going through the motions and going to Step (more of a routine?) that you were able to break away and have some real FUN. It is amazing that when you take care of yourself and fulfill comforting, nurturing needs by allowing feeling all those emotions that you felt while experiencing the movie that you are truly living and not simply checking off a to-do list. Not to mention reaping the benefits by having good solid sleep and less stress. Love this idea and Love you friend :)

Surrender,

It’s ironic, isn’t it? When we’re most stressed and unable to squeeze everything thing in? That’s when we most need a “Me Date”. LOL! I highly recommend it.

Love you!

Jen

sometimes we don't realize when we starting losing ourselves again even though we might feel ok. but stress can creep up on you too and your homework was well needed and a great way of breaking the routine!!
