Type 2 diabetic diagnosed July of 2011. Not surprised in the least because Diabetes is in both sides of my family. Very frustrated at the moment. I just got back into the habit of monitoring my blood glucose levels but I feel as if there is nothing I can do other than micro managing what I eat and getting out to exercise. I am allergic to long lasting Insulin and Metformin causes me to bleed internally. I started very compliant doing everything I was told to do but dealing with the side effects of meds cost me a good job and that was it.
Now I'm trying to get back on track. There has GOT to be an alternative treatment than what they have tried on me already.

I was diagnosed with type 2 on July 2010. It runs in my family, too.

Everyone's different, and of course what worked for me may not work for you. But I was advised by my physician's assistant to start walking; he swore that it was the best thing I could possibly do for myself. I decided to take that as a doctor's prescription, and make it an absolute requirement for my daily regimen.

By coincidence my employer had given me a FitBit at around that time. So I set a goal of walking 10,000 steps a day, working up to it gradually. It meant taking about a one-hour walk a day, in addition to the usual steps I took during the day.

I got to enjoy it! And my weight dropped a bit. Within six months, I was up to 15,000 steps a day, and I was taken off of ALL diabetes medication. My last A1C was 5.5. I don't know if your case would respond as well to walking, but it's worth a try. And if you have a smartphone, there are many free apps that will track your steps. I use Google Fit as a backup for my FitBit. I hope walking works for you!
