What's wrong with me that I keep getting abandoned by therapists? How is this even ethical?
What are the circumstances of this abandonment? Sometimes it doesn't work out with a therapist, can take a few goes to find one that works well with you.
I had a therapist for over 5 yrs & she abandoned me. I just feel so hurt that I pretty much lost my best friend. I've been emailing her and she hasn't responded. She said she cares about me and left me in the cold. It hurts. I've been through so much and thought she actually cared and she obviously didn't at all. She was just doing her job. Now, I've been talking to a new one for the last few months & I vented to her about how I feel that therapists are fake & provide inadequate care etc. She got insulted. And she used to let me text her and now she say said not to text her this wkd because she needs to recharge. Well I've had anxiety attacks, so I texted her and she read them, but just ignored me. :(
@K14 I can understand how that would really hurt. I think though that while therapists can, and probably often do really care about their patients, it is their job. I don’t know your particular circumstances, but it seems fairly unusual that a therapist would be in contact much other than during sessions. I’d imagine that doing a job that involves helping a lot of people dea with their probles would be very draining, and recharge time very important. It could be that that part of things you’re taking personally when it isn’t meant that way at all.
Do you have a support system other than your therapy? Any friends or family that you’re close to and can talk with? Therapists can be a great help, but it’s also important to try to work on friendships outside of that.
