I thought it would be good to change things up a bit and breathe some fresh air onto this site today. I have been reading many many posts on weight, fear of weight , about being skinny , and so on and while this is great to vent-- I think we need a shift--a change if you will.
We need to focus on something ELSE. I love all of you on here and would like to get to know who you are ---what you really like aside from ED. I want to know your thoughts on life, what makes you feel good, your opinions, what movies you like, what music you like, what is your favorite color, what is your favorite season, what are your hobbies and so forth. We are NOT our ED no matter what ED might tell you. We have done this post before--as lovely Jan has posted this before--but I think it is imperative to conquer ED. We need to look into our soul, spirit, heart, and mind to dive deep down into our own waters and discover our true self. Also I want to know what you all like and are interested in, cause , well im just curious! This is a great excercise in overcoming ED. So relax, sit back and ponder all the wonderful things you like to do or your favorite---anything! and share it with me!!!!Dont be shy!
For starters:
My name is Maureen and I have shoulder length golden blonde hair with hazel green eyes. I love music so much as it so helps to calm me and make me so blissful! Yes I am quite attached to my MP3 player!I love to sing and i LOVE dancing! I love writing and reading and poetry. I someday want to be a writer. I like to study words, literature, vocabulary, and how to write more effectively. I love pink. I love anything pink. Really--if I see something pink i will want it!LOL!!! Ha! I also love turquoise and green.
I love the fall, winter and spring season but dont like summer as much. I don't really watch t.v. or movies much but do watch my fave shows on DVD. Im not a movie person but do like some movies ( I just bought a couple even). Movies arent really my thing...
Im very very painfully shy but I can write up a storm! I am alway saying how I wish I can talk how I write! I'd love some verbal/communication skills.
I am very loving and caring and compassionate. I like helping people and in fact, it is what I really want to do in my life. I like helping people try to recover--but not only that i just like helping others. I live in New York now but also have lived in Florida and California . I grew up in Cali--yes I am a true Cali girl! I love Mexican food and cake is my favorite dessert!!!!!
My favorite holiday is Christmas!!!!!
Like I said I can blab up a storm in writing, in real life Im as quite as a mouse(until you get to know me and then I cant shut UP!) HA! right, JEN???? LOL!!!!!right JAN????? LOL!!!! I guess I'll be able to write that book Ive always wanted to write pretty easily! LOL! (if i could stop putting it off!)
OK---Soooooooooooo...
I look forward to hearing your replies--and remember be yourself and have FUN!!!!!!!!!
Hi everyone..
My name is Gina and I live in Canada. I have long burgendy/red hair and hazel/green eyes. I think I'm short, I'm 5'6...I always sport high heels...kinda my trademark.
I love to read fiction novels and am a sucker for 'chick-lit'. I love Sophie Kinsella!
I have a bit of an obsession with beauty products...I collect OPI nail polishes, I have over 200. Hair products are a different story; I work in the hair industry and impulsively have to buy every new product from every new line that comes out just so i can say ive tried it....i dont even want to think about how much I spend monnthly :S I could totally open up a fully stocked salon!
I dont watch much tv, but when I do, House, Fringe and Greys anatomy are my favs. My favourite movie is Dirty Dancing, duh right?! lol
I am more comfortable speaking to a room of 500 people then I am speaking one on one, not sure if that makes me shy but I like to think im more quiet then shy. My job requires me to be quite outgoing so on my free time I tend to chill out and just hang around. I have a chihuahua whom I love to pieces, his name is Charlie.
Purple is my favourite colour, quite frankly i think the whole world should be purple! lol. Lilacs (hence the name) remind me of my childhood and my mum, we used to pick lilacs on my way to elementry school and my mom would bring them home so when i got home from school there would always be pretty lilacs on our kitchen table in a pretty vase.
i love chick lit too!!! ( i guess it is cause im a chick!)
i also have tons of hair products—ugh the money i spend on my hair!!! i have to be good and not spend so much!!! i have not so much money now…so i have to save! but i do buy many hair product and man that adds up to a lot. ughhhh…
i do love “House” but it kinda scares me!( especially since i have had some mystery illnesses!!!) i love “greys anatomy” and ER but havent watched them in a while. I love Dirty Dancing but my fave BY FAR is Flashdance. i was thinking of selling it on ebay but just cant part from it…
you are good in that area–gina–i would freak in a room of 500 people! i would panic! ( i have social anxiety) but im overcoming it with books and therapy.
i like chihuahuas --i love animals but we cant have them where we live… i love kitties…
I also love beautiful fragrances and i love beautiful colors as well. I am very color oriented....
I just turned 34 this October! yes i am a libra!
I love clothes but im not what you would call a shopper. I am very frugal when I buy something. I get a lot of my clothes on clearance sale !If it aint clearance---I dont buy it!!!!!Sometimes though I will break down and pay full price! Ha!!!
I love art and like to paint but havent in sooo long..I love museums but havent gone to one in ages....
I adore carnivals! i just love going to carnivals and feeling the exhiliration in the air and cotton candy and the feeling of innocence!!!! I love going on rides but not the scary ones( my fiancee and I got really hurt on time on a carnival ride!)
my therapist says I am very little girl like! and I think she is right---I am a grown woman but have the heart of a little girl-and that is what keeps me YOUNG! and alive even...
Being young at heart is an admirable quality Maureen! Carnivals scare me :S I just feel like the rides are unstable lol I'd much rather be at an amusement park!
I love fragrances too...what are your favs? I currently am inlove with Juicy Couture - peace love couture and my signature scent for a few years has been Juicy Couture - Viva La Juicy.
I forgot to mention, I am a HUGE NHL hockey fan....TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS!!! Any hockey fans out there?
thanks lilac---yeah my fiancee always kids me when i sleep with my stuffed kitty and goes awwwww my little girl! ha yes im 34 and i sleep (sometimes)with a stuffed kitty! yeah ! LOL! my therpaists says the same thing--i go come on guys im 34!!!!!!!!!! HA! i am a woman now!!!!
my fave fragrances hmmm---well, you know--- the cherry japanese blossom from bath and body----the perfume and lotion...
and i think ive heard of juicy couture---i think i have! not sure but it sounds good! my faves are this one called Bravia which my fiancee got for me a year ago ...and RED by giorgio .and Dazzling, i think it is called...
i love fruity fragrances--i have some perfumes but i dont think the names would be recognized on here--but i love them...hmmm you know i have to investigate this further!! HA!
carnvials--yes those rides are unstable!!!!!!! we got seriosuly hurt( my and my fiancee ) one day and he has damage now from that ride! oh, what were we thinking when we went on that???????
hockey--hmmmm i love hockey ----and anything on ice but dont usually watch it. i love watching ice skating though..
I am someone different. I am someone who thrives on being different and always have done. I'm a strong Aquarian - since I was a child, I've always had to mark this difference and have two little ladybirds (ladybugs) tatooed on my wrist as a reminder of this!!!
Like Maureen, I have a strong passion for writing. I've written out my entire story which goes on a journey from London to Paris and I am still writing it at the moment although I've had to take a break lately. My dream would be to have a job as a writer. Since I was a child, I used to write stories which were pages and pages in length. I used to write poems and dream about them being printed. In fact, I've only just remembered that this was a dream that I've had for nearly all of my life.
My favourite colour is emerald green. I'm drawn to this colour. I have a great amount of time for elephants - I've always seen them as incredibly wise creatures. I have the feeling that they somehow 'know' more than us and that they contain the answers which humans could never get to which brings me onto my next passion...
I'm hugely interested in philosophy. I've never studied it officially but I read philosophy books and am learning as I go along. I find that reading philosophy comforts me a lot because it is on the same level as the way I've often thought throughout my life. I can apply my mind to philosophy as an outlet for my big ideas and theories on life! I started with a book called Sophie's World and from then, I've been hooked.
Music is very important to me. As a child, I played the violin which I hated and the piano which I loved. I listen to the Beatles but it soon (in the teenage years!) changed towards a passion for Hip Hop, Trip Hop, Reggae and Drum & Bass music. I used to DJ drum & bass music but only as a hobby. These days, I hate the music which I used to listen to but I find it useful to use it to bring back some of my forgotten past. Nowadays, I enjoy listening to an enormous variety of different types of music. With my love for music comes a love for dancing. I absolutely love dancing to my favourite music and would love to take up some lessons.
I'm a very social individual. I can't stand being lonely or isolated and this is part of the reason why I am fighting my ED with such force. The only time I enjoy being on my own is when it's myself who has made that decision to create a healthy balance in my life. As soon as I am well enough, I will be holding a small dinner party for some friends.
I FINALLY have long hair and I know it's going to look even better as I give my body what it needs. I love buying original clothes and getting ready to go out - unfortunately, I've taken less care lately but I know I'll be back soon!!! Lilac - I also have a love for Opi nail varnishes - they don't chip!!!!! I love my mini collection!!!
wow oh la la --thanks so much for sharing that lovely reply. we have a lot in common, wow. i have the exact same dreams/ feelings of you as far as being a published writer--i really want that! i bet your story is very lovely and sounds interesting.... it is great to keep dreams alive --but through my ED i lost my writing ambition. ED robs us of our dreams... you know? i wont let it happen now though...
i also love philosophy and love the color green. i think that philosophy willl help us in our writing. in fact, id love to learn more on philosphy. i also like you love music and dancing i think is such a wonderful way to express our BODIES. i can control my body through dancing and not ED. i can make it move how i want when i want--how i like. although it can be too much excercise so i have to eat a lot a lot to dance..
i wish i was more social. i am definetly an introvert than an extrovert and shy. but i guess people have all types of personalities. for me i like to be alone to ponder my thoughts and relax and expore my mind. i do also agree it could be triggering for ED being alone--but i am trying to improve on my social skills.
thanks so much for this oh la la!! i really enjoyed this!
Yes, I totally know what you mean in saying that the ED robs us from our dreams. But those dreams are still there and we have the ability to make them a reality. I totally agree that philosophy aids us in our writing. I always thought that my mind was totally insane until I started to read philosophy and then I realised that I was just applying my mind to the wrong things! It’s strange that reading philosophy has been one of the things helping me to face my ED. I think it’s because philosophy distances one from the world or society and I was able to visualise myself as seperate from my ED in the same way so I could take a more ‘rational’ view.
How could you make your writing dream come true? I had an idea for myself this morning. There’s no English publications for Internationals in Toulouse like there is in Paris but there’s a huge English-speaking community. I would love to work with someone or a small team to start up an English-speaking publication + website in Toulouse. I have my afternoons free and it would be time well-spent - I have to be patient though and focus on getting better first.
I feel that I am both introvert and extrovert - it’s strange - I remember before my ED that I would love my time alone as much as I loved my time with friends. I’m beginning to see that creating a ‘balance’ is quite important in many ways.
OPI is addictive dont you think?! Whats your favourite colour? I have a few that i always go back to...You dont know Jacques, Lincoln park at midnight, Boris and Natasha and pamplona purple!
Well, I’m reasonably new to Opi so the addictive nature of such incredibly long-lasting nail varnish is yet to be discovered - current favourite = Tickle my France-y!!! Nothing quite like it!
like maureen i have a passion for writing. my senior year of high school i wrote a childrens about some snails playing baseball. i illustrated and wrote it. it came out really good. i am new to teh writing poetry but everyone says im really good.
i work at a bath and body works. i love the fruity scents like cucumber melon and country apple. i like my job sometimes.
i am in college at the moment. i am at a community college. i am studying fine arts. i love drawing and painting. my favorite artist is georgia o keeffe. i want to eventually either be an art teacher or art therapist.
my favorite color is blue and pink. my entire room is pink but most of clothes are blue. i love shopping with my family. im very close with my family.
like maureen i live in new york also. i love going to the city every once in a while. i love fragences and i could open a shop and sell most of my lotion that i bought over the many years.
Jealous about you working and Bath and Body!! I LOVE thier Winter Candy Apple and can only get it around the holidays…I buy enough to get me through to the next year!! I also love the Passion Fruit Antibacterial Lotion Soap. I buy it by the case to have on hand at work (I HATE the institutional soap dispensers at work).
When I was in treatment my favorite group in the partial program was Art Therapy. I’m not much of an artist but the art therapist was so good about drawing stuff out of me and helping me to work through things by using my creativity instead of holding it in. I sure hope you can persue your dream and make it a reality!!
Okay, here goes...My name is Cathy. I am a mother of 3 great kids. My daughter is 30 and is married to an Army SFC and has two little boys. My middle child is a son, aged 27 who is a SGT in the Army and is deployed to Iraq. He and his wife don't have any childern YET. My youngest is a son, who lives with my daughter but enlisted in the Army and will start Basic Training in Jan. You could say I have raised my kids to respect American values!! I love my grandchildren and wish they lived closer :(
I have short brown hair, blue eyes and am 5'6" and never considered myself short because everyone on my mom's side is 5'3" or shorter so I was always the "tall" one.
I love music. I played violin from 4th grade until after high school. Got to travel a lot with the orchestra I played with. Then I played in a Christian Rock Band for 15 years where I also learned to play piano and bass. I am happiest when I am either playing the radio full blast in my car and singing along (I also sing in the shower!) or listening to my MP3 player. I feel I can express myself more through music than I can with my speaking voice, although I am getting better at using my voice. I like all kinds of music except for rap or hip hop.
My very favorite color is BLUE. I feel blue is a soothing color and it always calms me down to put on my favoite blue hoody. I am also a big Eeyore fan. I have an Eeyore watch and numerous stuffed Eeyore's that share my bed with me.
I have always considered myself painfully shy but as I recover from the ed I am finding that I am coming out of my shell. I work in the medical profession and part of my job is to talk to people all day long. I never thought that I could enjoy being around people as much as I do.
I am an Arizona girl at heart but live in Nor Cal. I do hope to move back when it becomes possible. I LOVE the heat!! Most people I know think that's crazy... I love the summer and dread the fall and winter months.
Think this is a great subject and am enjoying to getting to know everyone!!
thanks so much for sharing, cathy! you sound like a great mom!!! i dont have children…but i have a fiancee and sometimes it is like having a little boy (LOL!!!) ok hed kill me for that one, but i just had to say it, ha!!!
yes music is a beautiful thing. i can go from sad or anxious to calm and happy when i listen to music. it is like–freeing to the mind and invigorating… and exciting!!! i love every single form of music from opera to hip hop to classical to oldies–to pop rock, alternative, all eras—i like it all except country which my fiancee loves. oh and i dont like heavy metal. i do like some country though… i think it is great that --it seems a lot of people are positively affected by music… do you know when i am sick and listen to music–i feel better?? i swear it has healing powers!!
i am too coming out of my shell in recovery form ED! im discovering my self more.im also developing forming my true personality and it is kind of like–im changing as a person. im becoming more honest, assertive, open, giddy, humorous, --i can actually see a change in me–for the better. i am becoming the real ME.
thanks so much for sharing as i love reading these so much and appreciate the time you all spent writing this!!!
OMG you work at Bath and Body!!! wow what a cool job--to smell nice scents all day long...oo it must be tempting to buy it all! LOL..do you get discounts???hahahha. thats great..
and i have always always wanted a pink room! that is my dream!!!! to have everything pink! i dont know why pink i think it reminds me of bliss and innocence --so i like it. my fiancee says no pink rooms cause he wants it manly ...sigh...
hmmm a fellow New Yorker??? cool... yea it would be cool if you could open shop of your body lotions!!! ha!!!
My name is Kristin, I'm 21 years old. I've been dating my boyfriend for over 2 years now, my favorite color is also pink lol (I just bought a shiny hot pink leopard print wallet today!), I want a pet cow when I'm older, I drink a lot of Starbucks, I love watching thunderstorms, my favorite kinds of movies are the "little kid" ones, I journal a lot, I'm very very shy which probably comes off as rude sometimes, I'm a huge football fan, I'm not the most graceful person (always tripping or getting hurt somehow), my eyes are so dark they almost look black, I have freckles on my shoulders from the sun, I have a peacoat collection, I'm pretty tall 5'9, I have a slight addiction to buying jewerly and cute underwear haha, I love animals, Christmas is my favorite holiday, and I love my job.
Christmas is my favourite holiday too! I don’t think the magic will ever fade for me! I love everything about it. Even if I was snowed in Toulouse and unable to get back to UK, I think I would still feel that magical feeling - touching wood!!!
