Zoloft & Perphanazine

I saw the psych. doctor, and he prescribed me the generic of Zoloft, and Perphenazine. I'm very anxious to take these 1. because I'm a hypochondriac and I think I'm going to go into anaphylactic shock and die, or get terrible side effects. and 2. Because I've never taken anything but 3 days worth of Celexa, and I don't know what to expect. So before I start taking them, I was kind of hoping people who have prior experience could share the positives and negatives of either medicine. I should of dealt with these problems when I was 13, not 23, but, that's not all my fault. I should of just taken the pill and not read into it so much, but now that I have I need to know what to do, and what to expect. I appreciate the input from everyone.

Hi hmac63,

I am on Zoloft and Lamictal currently. I've been on Zoloft on and off for years. It's he only antidepressant that doesn't cause me to have side effects and works great. I'm actually really nervous because my psych doctor is trying to get me off of it. She thinks I would be ok on just the lamictal. It freaks me out because I have a really hard time before and during my period and Zoloft has been the only thing to help. I've never heard of the other med but you should at least try them for 2 weeks. Keep in mind that your taking them to feel better. If you start feeling negative about taking them remember all the good they can do for you and that you have support here.

They are starting me off on 100mg a day, doesnt that seem a bit high?? I'm afraid of the side effects and all the rare/uncommon ones happening to me with either medicine. I dont see the other medicine listed on any of the treatment lists so It makes me wonder If It's even okay to take. I hate all this, It's ridiculous.

Hi honey! Don't sweat taking meds! I took Zoloft a few years ago and didn't have any trouble with it. As for the other drug, I've taken similar drugs and they helped me a lot. Only you will be able to tell whether or not it's working for you or if it's causing side effects you don't like. You'll just need to keep your doc informed and you should start feeling better within a few weeks. Hang in there sweetie and keep us up on how you're doing!

I'm on perphenazine for schizoaffective and it really cleared up the noise from hallucinations. So far I feel great. I did have to lower my dose because of a side-effect that affected muscle movement. I am really excited about this medication because it literally feels like I have a new, clear, brain. Perphenazine doesn't affect blood sugar and weight gain like you see in the newer anti-psychotics. It can, but usually does not. I'm very happy on it.

Hi, I have been on zoloft for 10 years. It is a great medication with a low likelyhood of having any side effects. It will take a month for you to feel a significant difference in your anxiety and depression levels but it makes everything more manageable. I have OCD and I was able to stop all physical compulsions on this medication, it is great and don't worry about it.

@cwebe005 I’M ON 100MG. ZOLOFT ALSO… IT REALLY HELPS AND I HAVE NO SIDE EFFECTS !!!

any anti phsyo drug has effects make sure you have a primary internal doc to keep an eye of organs in your body ..regular blood work up

hey I've been on Zoloft for 3 year, and at the beginning it killed my apatite so make sure you eat if you aren't hungry on it. but that side effect went away and now it causes me no problems. if i forget to take it however, then the next day I'm into a really brutal withdrawl. I'm very forgetful, but just really follow the instructions on the meds for taking them.
