DO we need Continued HELP after treatment

After 4 mths now with no follow up after 5 wks of out patient treatment thinking I could do this on my own testing myself to see if I could really do this on my own. I would like to think I HAVE done really well on my own I believe I passed the test.
I was left to follow a meal plan and attemped to follow it myself.
But have agreed by the request of my Dr that I would agree to start seeing my dietician again just keep me on track so I have an appointment set up with her in NoV.
I had a drs appointment after 4 mths she was a new dr and with technology today medical files are kept on the computer she had all my info of my Ed and where I went for treatment.
She seemed concerned that I had no follow up care after my treatment. So as I said I agreed to set up an appointment and just got called today to set that up.
I guess I just wanted to prove to myself I could do this myself and not need to rely on the help of others I do understand why I should have the help right out of treatment.

I dont think you should want to prove that you can do it on your own - while it may be entirely possible, and im sure some have done so successfully, if you have that outlet there to help and ensure your continued success, I would advise you take full advantage of that.

Follow up is just as critical a part of treatment/recovery as any other. Being out in the world, facing 'normal life', so to speak is when you must be using your healthier coping skills. Please do as suggested and do your follow up care as you need....take care..Jan ♥

It took me a very long time to come to the reality I had a problem that I struggled with an ED. After treatment I just wanted to not have to rely on any help .I just wanted it to be done without professional help being fully aware that is a critical time for relapse. I was determined to be free of the Ed but I know that concern of the disordered thought with weight gain after treatment makes it risky and hard to deal with the changes in our bodies after eating normally again.
It has been 4mths and I am proud to say that I think I have done quite well keeping myself on track and sticking to my MP as best I can.
Im even able to eat foods I would avoid previously to treatment.
I was supposed to have follow up here when I got back with a new Dr.. I had called 3 times without any return calls. At this point I have agreed with my Dr that I would call my dietician and book an appointment with her which I have done.
I am even to my surprise (although it does change from time to time can be discouraged with the weight gain ) That I am learning to accept the weight gain and seeing that I look much healthier than before.

oh yes anyonynous--- follow up--it is great you are doing well though--but it is always great to have that back up support with you...

but you know what ---im soooooooooo proud of YOU! WOW! remember last year ??? youve come a long long way!!!

AG,

I'm so glad you've decided to go forward with your after-care. :) Yes, it IS a critical time. It's not a test, and it's actually a GOOD thing to be able to ask for help, though I can understand why you'd be eager to prove your strength and independence. Developing an ED does NOT indicate weakness. :) I know you know that. :)

Much love,

Jen

Thanks Jen!
