Fighting Against Childhood Obesity Now

This is a very important article that discusses why we need to take action regarding childhood obesity now;

"The nation's struggle with obesity has been going on for years. But recently, we've declared war on the problem.

The Centers for Disease Control said last month that one in three people would have diabetes by the year 2050, and that one in three children born this year will get it at some point in their lifetime. The numbers are alarming and might just be enough to motivate people to make a true effort to change the way we live.

While there are other causes for diabetes such as predisposition and an aging population, obesity is thought to be largely responsible for this surge.

Several national campaigns have been suggested -- and some implemented -- as a way of curbing the problem, including a tax on soda and demanding that fast food restaurants offer nutrition information to patrons and change their menus to include healthier meal options...."

Great questions Domestic! I honestly believe that childhood obesity needs to be prevented and combated from various angles and avenues; this is only one of them. Government is promoting healthier eating and wants to instill more education on health to children on the whole. But, that's not enough, it also needs to be implemented at home and in schools. I feel that the more awareness that is brought to this topic, then better.

the trouble is the media are flooding us with info as are the government but we are still failing to reach the target groups that need this vital infomation

i have watched the biggest looser recently and although they get spectacular results it doesnt really explain what they eat just to do lots of intense exercise so that gives people a distorted view to start with if they dont understand the basic concepts of healthy eating
