Hello

Hi there everyone. I am new and just looking for help/support to quit drinking. I am a single dad to a 14 year old girl and a 12 year old boy. I want to quit drinking because I don't like who I am when drunk but for some reason find myself drinking every few days. I don't drink in the morning or anything like that but when I start in the evening once I hit 3 or 4 beers I don't want to stop and I am sick of it. I am a good dad but know I can be an even better dad with alcohol out of my life. I also want to quit before the kids think it's ok to drink above moderation anyway. I am just hoping I will successfully quit drinking with just a bit of support and encouragement.

Hey there! I think it's great that you are taking this first step forward for both you and your kids. Welcome to the site!! I recently admitted to myself that I have a drinking problem. I was in denial for quite some time. I have found that talking to other people going through the same issues really helps. Also talking to those that have been sober for years helps to give me inspiration. I go to a website called recovery-world. they have an alcohol chatroom that is open all the time and have online AA meetings daily (i think3-4 per day). there you can listen to other people's stories and share your own. i think they are so helpful. there is also stepchat.com that is of a similar nature. you might want to try one of those out and keep posting on here. life really does get better without the drinking :)

Hi ndstone70, Welcome to SupportGroups.com . You are taking a step in the right direction by reaching out for help with your drinking. When I desired help with my drinking, I went to AA http://www.aa.org/ . AA is were I found others like myself and also found help, support and understanding. If you haven't gone to a meeting yet, then I suggest trying one. Keep taking it one day at a time. Just for today - don't drink. Keep sharing with us and letting us know how you are doing. We are here for you. ((((hugs))))
