I am struggling with my son's school wanting to put him in s

I am struggling with my son's school wanting to put him in special education for the last seven weeks of the school year. I don't feel comfortable with this due to he doesn't need special education, but specific education in regards to his dyslexia. They currently are using a reading program that is not for dyslexic learners and it is making his ADHD worse. They are saying that his behavior is why they want to put him in the special education class although I have never even gotten a note sent home from the teacher. He has an IEP and it is up to us if we would allow them to do this. Does anybody have any thoughts? My son is in second grade and is 9 years old.

why dont you talk to another school. if this current school isnt working in the best interests of your child, maybe you should try another school. because a school should encourage him, not the other way around.

i agree with alexia111 with looking into another school if you can. it may also be worth having a meeting with the teacher and counselors since you have an IEP for him and they are not using a dyslexia friendly reading program. They have to adjust for him. that's what the IEP is for, especially if it's a public school. If behavior is the only reason they want to switch him to special ed, see if you can get them to fix what is causing the behavior first. Idk if it'll help any, but one of the suggestions my elementary school gave my parents when I was struggling with reading was to use play dough to make the letters. It worked. I wish you luck, but if the only reason why the school wants him in special ed is behavior, I'd fight it, either by changing schools or talking to people at the school and going no, his behavior isn't the issue, it's the reading program, he needs something different.
