I went to urgent care yesterday for a cold and after having a chest xray was told that I have COPD. I am a little scared but I'm determined to find out all I can about this disease and fight with all of my might. I haven't seen my primary care physician yet to figure out exactly where I am in this process. Can anyone help me understand what I should do next?
Just go see your PCP. You'll likely be referred to a pulmonologist, or lung specialist. Once you see the specialist they will better be able to guide you with testing, disease course and treatment. Biggest thing...if you smoke, you need to quit. Right now. Because smoking will only worsen it. Or if you are exposed to second hand smoke, then you need to find a way to limit your exposure.
Thank you.
@Vicky55 - Youtube - Dr. Noah Greenspan Specialist has informative webinars on what to do & how to manage this. I suggest investing in a treadmill, I got one for $200 “triumph 400” so I can walk 4x’s per week indoors especially when weather isn’t permitting. Gotta find what works for you in keeping your endurance up. I use Anora-inhaled once daily, if I get sick (wheezy) then I use Abuterol treatments. I also go to the clinic if not too sick, their cheaper co pay & once they get to know you can help along w/specialist. Sometimes my specialist is so booked when I need help fast yet not sick enough for emergency room so its something to consider later on once you figure out what works best for you. I hope you stay w/us & Welcome to SupportGroups., you can message me anytime I a moderator here at SG.
