Medication

Hello, I'm 30 years old and been diagnosed with POF since I was 14 yrs old. I've been having a really hard time with finding the perfect medication for me. I've tried 10 different types of birth control to see which one is right for me. Just wondering what medications other women with POF are taking.

Hi PK2880, how are you doing? Were you able to find a proper birth control that works well for you? I hope all is well. Would love to know how you're doing.

Hello, I’m doing much better thank you. I started Sprintec so far so good. It’s just so hard starting another new pill. I’ve gained like 15lbs. So depressing! Thank you so much writing me

hey im 13 and i was just diagnosed... how did you get through it? everytime i had thought about my future there was my husband, big house, and 5 kids running around.. when they first diagnosed this my doctor didnt really explain how devastating and life long it is. and now im really having a hard time with this and ive just been hoping the blood tests were wrong.. anyway if you could just help me through this it would mean alot.

Hey newbeginnings, I’m really glad you wrote me. When I was diagnosed 15 yrs ago it was a really thing for me to understand and go threw. Like you, I always wished the blood tests are wrong and dreamed of being married with 3 kids. No one really explained it to me. I ended up setting up an appointment a specialist who really explained it to me. As you can see from my post, It’s been difficult finding the right medication all these yrs. I suffured from side effects. I just try to take it one day at a time. I always cry everytime I think about it and I think it’s normal. I just try to keep in mind that one day when I do find the my future husband he understands. My sister has the same issue as us (which the dr’s say is rare for 2 sisters to have) and she adopted a beautiful baby girl from Russia. She always puts a smile on my face and realize that one day i wised to be blessed to be able to adopt a baby too. Please contact me if you would like to talk. I’m here for you.

Thank you both for being here and for sharing with us. I would love to learn more about POF. May I ask what caused you to see a specialist to begin with? Were there certain symptoms? I think that it's so important for women to be aware of certain prospective issues and how to care for them properly. This is a new topic for me, so I would really appreciate any insight that you can offer.

Also, I think that adoption is such a beautiful gift, as there are so many children in this world in need of good homes. I know that you two will make amazing mothers to your big beautiful families :-)

Sure, since I was 14 and never got my period or developed breasts my mom took me to a dr. They examined me and took bloodwork and thats how they knew.

Thank you so much for explaining the symptoms and process, I really appreciate it. It's something that i'd like to be aware of. I know that you will have a beautiful family for sure.

@pk, what are the side effects of Sprintec? (besides the weight gain) i was diagnosed 2/22/11 with pof/premature menapause and i am almost 30. was just wondering if it was worth taking? and what is it specifically? i was just wondering bc i didnt know if it would be something that i should bring up the next time my husband and i see the fert dr. after she gets the results from my pelv ultrasound (yesterday) ad bloodwok that getting today and also a test that my hubby is goin through in a few days). thanks for sharing your story. glad to see that there are alot of others like me in this bad place in our lives.

With Sprintec I would get weight gain and really bad migraines! They were horrible I would have to call out of work so I just asked my Dr. to switch me again.
