So, I apparently majorly struggle with time management, even on medication. I work, and I am a full time student (13 credits this semester). Today, I am frantically trying to study for a test tomorrow, read 20 pages for my lit class and take notes on those pages, and write a 5 page research paper that I have barely done the research for that is due tomorrow. All of these assignments are due tomorrow. How did I end up waiting till the last minute to work on the research paper you ask? Well, it goes like this, my lit teacher assigns us 40-60 pages to read per class (we're talking a tues/thurs class). I read slow, and only just got things set up with the school for audio textbooks (a blessing). Last week was the midterm for lit, in which I needed to be very familiar with 24 passages of readings. So, the clearest answer is lit kept getting all of my time. I prioritized lit because I wanted to do it the least, need the most focus to do it, and it takes me the longest to do as in I have to do each work in a single sitting or I am confused when I try to pick it up again. Clearly this method does not work, because by the time I finish lit, I am to mentally and/or physically tired to work on my other assignments. Hence the extremely last minute paper. Without assigning a specific time for every little thing (for me, that gets too OCD, I start having anxiety issues if I can't do something at the time I'm supposed to. I also find it to be not flexible enough for life to happen) does anyone have tips for situations like this to not happen again?
Could you schedule help at Student services, if you are eligible for audio textbooks, I bet you would qualify for a tutor.
@CKBlossom That’s a potential thought. When I talked with student services to get audio texts they said that is all they approved me for, but the fact that I read at the speed of a snail (5 pages in 2hrs was the push) was the key focus of all of my documentation. I haven’t commented about the usual ADHD issue of prioritizing and not going nuts trying to manage my time so I can accomplish everything.
