Something to think about

Oh boy! Something more to think about. Like I don't have enough already? I just went for a walk and while day dreaming I came up with this.

Actually it's probably your thinking that, got you where you are and, brought you here to begin with.

Keep an open mind and consider these. I hear some pretty smart people saying things like this: "Frame of reference IS everything". or "It all depends on how you look at it" or
"it's your choice".

It's been proven time and again that you are the one who chooses how your going to think and or feel about something.

Other people proclaim, rather than inquire, things like: "That's what I think". or "That's just the way I feel about it and theres nothing I can do to change that.

There is a portion of that that is correct. That being:
"If you think you can't; you're right".

Worded just a little bit differently: You could say "What you perceive is what you believe" or what you have chosen or decided to believe.

Getting back to the: "What do you mean? I can't change the way I think or feel about something"? question.

Picture this?
You're walking down a dark deserted sidewalk in a big city that you're not familiar with. Up ahead in the shadows you see two figures you assume are people? You hear one of them say "Here comes someone now". You think OMG their probably street thugs. Their probably going to at least harass me. Or maybe even beat me up and steel my money. But bravely you keep walking forward. When you get to them you see that it is an old man and his wife. She has fallen and is badly hurt, and he is desperately trying to find help for her.

What Are you thinking now? Is it different than what you originally BELIEVED to be true?

Is it possible that you changed what you were thinking and now feel differently? How did that happen? (YOU) chose to alter your perception of what you were seeing and to think and feel differently about it.

You might think this is a contrived or unusual example.
But It does illustrate the point that YOU DO create your own thoughts and feelings, and YOU CAN change them.

Keep looking up.
especially if you live in the city. you never know when something might fall on you. LOL ;-)

Change your thinking, change your life.

Thanks Trick.

Hi , everyone, I;m Tonio;s mom. He had his ONE severe breakdown at the age of 19, he is now 30. no other hospital stays , no more breaks since then.

to my dismay,,,
during his hospital stay his assigned doctor was rattling off all the things he probably would not be able to do, I was too shocked at all that was happening and could not absorb it all when Tonio said, Wait a minute doctor, stop telling me all the things I can;t do, LET HISTORY BE OUR JUDGE...

and you know what , he was right , he has accomplished much in those 11 years, he now sometimes speak at the day group center where he attended off and on for many of those years.

he takes the intra muskelar prolixin shot twice monthly { 25 Mil. } plus 1 100 mil. oral pill of closipine nightly. recently he began researching and thinking about changing to the new once monthly Invega Sustenna intra muscular shot.

I asked him if he thought he should or could change from his current meds, and still do well ?

as always he replied { as he always } does to everything, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can..........LET HISTORY BE MY JUDGE.

I am a witness, TRICK is right, if you think you can , you will.......if you think you can't, you won;t...

THANK YOU ALL FOR SUPPORTING ONE ANOTHER,,
THERE IS STILL LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL.

Moham, love that & the way you described it, as we all should see the positive in what WE CAN accomplish. Thank you for sharing that w/us.

Take care of you.

April

Hi everyone,

New to this post but thought the quote, also, relevant to Trick's opinion on Sat. is one I learned in college:

"Argue for your limitations and
sure enough their yours."

Jerry Savoy

Kinda says it all, don't you think?

Peace out, T.

trini,

I’ve heard that same statement, it was worded slightly different but conveyed the same message.

I like your style kid  And not because you seem to agree with me allot. Because you sound like a very smart person who has allot of good things to share.

So, seeing that your new to the group. Welcome n please keep posting. Your obviously not new to the type of things we talk about here. Glad to have you on-board.

Peace Out

Hi all,

Rational vs. Irrational thinking. Wonderful to hear someone refer to it's magic properties. Loved the analagy you gave about the man, woman and alley. How true it is that we catastraphize things so readily. Myself, surely at the top of that list. If you are really interested, google rational vs. irrational thinking.Look up R.E.B.T. With what you know, and your seeming passion for it, you'll have a ball learning about the top 12 irrational views we hold on things.AND the cognitive counterparts to each one.
Also, the grandfather of all this cognitive therepy is Albert Ellis who penned what he called rational emotive therepy. Also good reading but dry, and not as seemingly relevant to what we can do with all this on a day to day basis. Let me know what you think. I'll try and remember how I got to this web page.

"What upsets people is not things themselves but their judgements about the things"

Peace, Trina

I’ll do that. Sounds cool.
I’m familliar with R.E.T.
and prolly almost any other T.
one can think of. Been doin this
gig a bunch of years.
