I'm looking for information to support our 12 year old son who has chronic pain. He is recovering from spinal cord tumor surgery which is very rare in children. If there are any adults who have had this surgery or any SCI adults or children who can help with information, please let me know of your experiences. Thank-you.
i don't have your sons condition, however i have had surgery on my right clavicle where they found a tumor when i was 10. i'm 16 now and still very ill from my disease. the pain is very difficult to live with and if i could, as his father, just let him know how proud you are of him. how much you love him and how you know he'll recover. when i get sick my parents rarely speak to me and it makes it twice as hard. be there for him every step of the way, as im sure you will be. dont let him get depressed or anything either. its very scary to face depression when your younger. there isn't anything that can't be cured by love. don't forget that.
Not the same but I had 2 spinal fusions - T-2 through T-12 is fused. One at 10 and the other at 12 years of age. I had 5 ribs and part of my hip removed too. I'm 36 now and still have pain everyday. Mostly it is muscle spasms, sometimes it's residual from nerve damage. What kind of pain is he having? I might be able to make some suggestions. I am proud to say I have learned to deal with the pain and take no narcotics for it either. If I can't get it OTC, I don't want it! Let me know. We will figure something out!
