What are the signs for ADHD?

I constantly find myself having problem focusing, but I can't figure out if this is really a serious sign of ADHD? When I'm on the computer, I can focus for a few minutes and then my mind wanders and I tend to toggle over to other programs, sites, etc.

I would love any help and guidance on your experience. Thank you so much!

Hi, puppydoglvr! Might be an indicator. I'm new here, so I don't know if this site has quizzes for checking symptoms for various conditions, but I do know that WebMD does. If your tendency to move from one thing to another is bothersome or interferes in any way with you being productive, it can't hurt to take one of the quizzes. If the quiz indicates that your symptoms are consistent with ADHD and/or ADD, then you have a starting point and can make an appointment with the appropriate medical specialist to be thoroughly evaluated. I'm 60 y/o and was diagnosed with ADHD/ADD in 2000, but I had so many medical problems at the time that it wasn't addressed.

Recently I found out that I'm pretty much split down the middle severe ADHD & ADD - it was quite a shock, but then a bit of a relief because now I understand SO much about WHY I have had certain difficulties in my life. I'm in the process of finding a good doctor here to do a complete evaluation, and hopefully they will be able to find a medication that I'm not allergic to that will help me deal with this condition and function better. ADHD/ADD was not widely recognized during the 1950s & 1960s when I was growing up - I really wish it had been because I know that my life would have been very different had I been receiving treatment and learning the coping skills and techniques to deal with it all these decades. So, I would encourage you to get yourself checked out ASAP before you're my age!

Let us know what you find out.

Hi ArtemisV, thank you so much for your wonderful feedback and all of the information, I truly appreciate it. Everything that you wrote and suggested makes perfect sense and I am going to follow through on. I checked-out WebMD and they don't have a test, but more of a step-by-step process of what a doctor would do to test you.

I'm so used to environments where I am expected to multi-task, so keeping focus on one project at a time is tough. I am going to do more research to make sure that I nip this in the bud before it gets worse.

Thank you so much again!

Hi, again, puppydoglvr!

Here’s the link for the WebMD ADHD/ADD symptom checker quiz: ADD vs. ADHD: What's the Difference Between ADD & ADHD?

I knew it was there because I just took it a couple of weeks ago - but, you kind of have to know WebMD’s quirky way of organizing information!(LOL)

Just go through the wizard and it will give you a score, plus a page to print out for yourself explaining each score for each section, and a report to print out and take to your doctor as a starting point.

Good luck and I hope things improve for you (and me, too!).

ArtemisV, thank you so much for taking the time to provide the link, I really appreciate it. I will definitely give it a go and see what happens. Thank you again! Hope you're happy and smiling.
