What you should eat before exercising

This is a great article giving ideas on what's good to eat before a work-out, which I am definitely going to be implementing;

"Chances are if your looking to exercise your probably either trying to get healthier, stronger, or to lose weight. For each one of these objectives, it could require eating something different before your workout. However, no matter which of these you are trying to do it is still important that do you eat right before the workout. Most people only focus on eating the right thing after they are done working out. Not many focus on what to eat before working out to maximize your bodies potential during your workout. This is sad because it is almost, if not, as important as what you eat after your workout.

You may be wondering what to look for in a pre workout snack. A good idea would be to find a snack that is high in carbohydrates but at the same time low in fat. These carbs will provide you with the energy needed during your workout. It is important that the snack is low in fat because this delays the time before your stomach is empty. Everyone knows the unpleasant feeling of working out or running when you have a full stomach. This way, you wont have to worry about that.

You now know the qualities of a good pre workout meal, but you may be wondering what foods have these qualities. There are many tasty foods that will make for a great pre workout meal. Some of the best being pasta, breads, and energy bars. These are great to eat before your workout because they are high in carbohydrates, while at the same time being low in fat. After watching what you eat before you workout for a while, you will eventually begin to see which of these foods you prefer to eat, and maybe even find better foods to eat before your workouts......."

thanks for posting this puppy.

i am trying to find a right combo of what to eat cause sometimes i either feel really off or get stomach cramps while working out. hopefully this will help with that.

I am right there with you. I usually try to eat a good breakfast, then a snack 30 minutes before working out if I work-out in the early afternoon, which I try to do. But this article really helped me a lot.

question for you, First off I can not eat or drink about 3 hours before a work out, first off does this make a difference in kind of what you are saying. My work outs are still good for the most part. the other question I have is about 75 % of the time my work out snack is a fruit with maybe a protien bar. the protien bar is a hit and miss but if not before i have it right after. I do about an hour of cardio and an hour of weights 4 times a week then on top of that do a jog every night that runs between 1 mile to 3 miles. And when I say jog let me clear that up it is jog side walks, walk across lights and my jogs are not fast paces, between 10-13 minute miles. Not worried about what to eat before my job, but the actual work outs I would love to know any suggestions to get the most out of my work outs. I work out to build muscle and lose weight and get healthier, but sad to say kind of gave up on the healthy idea due to the fact lost an initial 150 lbs. and did not see an improvement in blood pressure or cholesteral. so more a mental benefit for me. But building muscle is important to me, due to having many joint issues and problems that in the years to come if I do not keep my muscles strong I will be paying a huge price. plus I am not like your normal females and i do like the bulk of muscles.

Hi K9, I think that it's important for you to get the proper nutrition before your work-outs. It's all about fueling your body before a work-out; the fruit and protein bar before your work-outs seem suffice, and maybe try making sure you have a small snack before you run in the evenings. As well, what type of diet do you have, because after losing so much weight it's also important to focus on your blood pressure and cholesterol.

puppy- diet hits and misses at times. Since getting active and trying to lose the weight starting 5 years ago, I cut out fast food all together. For about the first 2 years I did struggle with bingeing on fast food from time to time when stressed. Then I had a year I was doing really good, then started to have the pains and RA show up and then put on phych meds and the weight came back about 40 pounds, but in the last year been hanging in there at about 240-250.
Are you sitting before I tell you my diet. I have habit of sticking to the same foods and not liking change.
As for salt I will say do not even have any in my house.
Breakfast could be cherrios or oatmeal the fruit veriety with milk. Or a jimmy dean breakfast sandwich but that is maybe once every couple weeks due to it being frozen and processed with sodium.
Snack is normally a v-8 juice or piece of fruit
lunch some type of whole wheat bread with turkey or chicken on it and pickles. No condiments.
if not that then I have a smoothie with my protien powder, or some brown rice, chicken and brussel sprouts. I will switch these up during the week.
snack before work out apple or banana, and a protien bar that is low in sugar but around 150 -170 calories and 15- 20 grams protien.
Dinner is my down fall. It may be some air popped popcorn nothing on it just plain. A bowl of bussel sprout or brocolli, or whole wheat bread with a piece of cheese. A protien drink mixed with milk. maybe a salad with chicken and eggs tomatoes, cucumber, no dressing. A nature valley bar. mixed fruit. Pretty much I pick one of these items and eat it. I know not good.
Dinner is the hardest because when I do my work out it is notmally around 4 in the afternoon I finish up around 6 then do some stuff at work and home and then about 8 go for my jog. And if I eat or drink anythign in that 3 hour time before a work out my back kills me when I am exercising.
In a day I get between 1200- 1500 cal. on average. If I have had issues where I can not work out I screw up big time and I might have a bowl of fruit, bowl of brussel sprouts and air popcorn. I get scared to eat knowing how hard it is to lose the weight now. I know this makes things worse but tell my brain that at that moment. So I like days I do work out to my max, because I know I can eat good and I feel good as far as not gasing out so easy.
I am suppose to see a nutritionalist but scared when they hear what I eat on certain days what they will say to me.

K9, it seems that you have such a healthy diet overall. Mixing veggies with proteins, and you have healthy snacks in between. I think that it would be so great for you to see a nutritionist at this point so that they can better guide you with a diet that will help get your cholesterol and blood pressure down.

Hi my beloved sister,

Can it really be this simple?

My daughter gained 95 pounds when she was pregnant with her first child. She has lost all of it by taking 15,000 IU daily of Vitamin D3 and exercising.

The article below gives many examples of other women who have tried EVERYTHING and nothing worked for them until they started taking Vitamin D3. There are Scientific studies listed and Doctors comments.
