My therapist would like me to journal about pros and cons of ED & pros and cons of Recovery. I'm really struggling with this one. So, it would great to hear all of your ideas on this.
HI :)
I would say there are ultimately no "pros" of ED. For me, in the moment of a binge, I feel a sense of relief and calm..almost as if I am out of my body and in an uncontrollable state. Once the binge is over the feeling of guilt and sadness take over.
The only con of Recovery is the fact that it will be a daily struggle. It isnt something that will ever go away..but can be controlled. But it takes daily effort... But I think it's a "con" thats worth it :)
cheer...I found this type of project to be helpful during my recovery. The pros and cons are helpful for some people to see the reality of both sides.
It is hard to see the pros of the ED, and also the pros of recovery when you are in a tough spot. But the ED has in some way, served a purpose, even if it's not seen as rational. Otherwise none of us would have resorted to the ED for comfort, anxiety relief, or as a means to be accepted.
For me, this type of project required opening up my mind to the past and the future, and sometimes 'faking it' just because it's what I heard from others (in terms of the rewards of recovery).
It may be hard to do the first time, but I truly believe it will get easier, and it may help you see why the ED is no longer effective for you....good luck!! Jan ♥
Pros of an ED - it makes you feel like you have control of something. The Con is that the ED has conned you since it actually has the control of you. It has become your inner bully. The pros of recovery is realizing this and taking your actual control back from your ED. The con, as stated above, is the challenge is doing this since you are battling yourself. The time and dedication it takes is a struggle, but the reward (I am hoping for) is discovering an inner strength and beauty that doesn't rely on outside reinforcement but comes from within. Good luck!
